Round 7 Inter B Kirwan League
Well it’s not quite all over, but we have a winner alright. Vernon are the winners of the Inter B
League. 2nd place is still in the balance. Glasnevin are currently in 2nd place, but St Anthony’s
can overtake them if they beat Donabate in the last match of the league, which will be played on
14th May.
Here are the results for rounds 6 and 7 and the current league position with one match
outstanding.

Round 6 was really the deciding round of this league. Vernon had a big win over Donabate
which moved them into an unassailable lead when their nearest challengers faltered. St
Gabriel’s had a big win in their match with Malahide, which put paid to Malahide’s chances and
Glasnevin could only draw with Clontarf in their last match of the league. While this has leftGlasnevin in 2nd place on 67.45 VP’s, it is all very precarious with St Anthony’s having a match
outstanding against Donabate and the potential to take 2nd place if the match goes their way.
And that brings us onto Round 7. In the 1st match of the round Vernon got to play Malahide,
knowing that they had already won the league, and like Liverpool against Chelsea at the
weekend, their heart wasn’t really in the match and Malahide went on to win, but not by enough
VP’s to catch Glasnevin in 2nd place. In the other match St Gabriel’s and Clontarf were only
playing for pride and were also in a bit of a relaxed mode. In fact they were so relaxed, they
managed to mess up the movement. As a result their match has been deemed void and both
teams were awarded 10 VP’s.
So we have one match left - St Anthony’s vs Donabate. This has been scheduled for 14th May.
If St Anthony’s pick up 11.44 VP’s, they will claim 2nd place. If not, then Glasnevin will claim 2nd
place. So it is still all to play for.
Congratulations to the Vernon team of Martin McMahon, Peter Flynn, Sandie Stirling, Elaine
Flood and Maxi Goodwin on their win.
Thank you all for participating and making my job easy (most of the time!!). I hope to see you at
the dinner and prize giving in Sutton Golf Club on May 17th. And if I don’t see you then, I hope I
will see you in next year’s Kirwan League. If you enjoyed the competition, please spread the
word. It would be great to have more teams next year.
