Round 1 Inter B Kirwan League
We are up and running in the Kirwan League. This year we again have seven teams. The
seasoned campaigners from Clontarf, Donabate, Glasnevin, Malahide and Vernon have been
joined by previous seasoned campaigners from St Anthony’s and the unseasoned campaigners
but winners of the Novice League from last year - St Gabriel’s. It is really great to have you all
on board and to have so many clubs represented in the league. We hope that you will enjoy
your Kirwan League experience.
We will have seven rounds this year and each team will get to play six matches. DNR will run
seven facilitated nights, where we will supply a T ournament Director who will look after the
games and help you with the scoring and also bring predealt boards. The dates of the facilitated
nights are as follows:
If you do not wish to avail of the facilitated game facility, you are welcome to arrange to play on
any other date, provided you get your game played before the end date for the round.
As you all know Round 1 was scheduled to be completed by 29th November which they duly
were. While you are aware of how your individual matches went, here are the full set of results
and the League T able at the end of Round 1.
With so many teams competing that have previously won the Kirwan League, this looks like it is
going to be a very closely fought competition and this is clearly to be seen in the 1st round.
The closest match of all was that hosted by last year’s League Winners, Orla Duffy’s Malahide
team and Peadar Buckley’s St Anthony’s team who had won the league back during COVID.
Only 2 IMP’s separated the teams after playing 24 boards.
Catherine McManus’s Glasnevin team, our winners from 2022/23, proved to be too strong for
Grace O’Flaherty’s St Gabriel’s team who had won the Novice League last year.
The final match of the round between Vernon and Clontarf was held on the DNR facilitated night
in St Paul’s in Raheny, which is the home of both these clubs. Again after a very tight match
where both clubs experienced their own ups and downs, Emer Burke’s Clontarf came out on top
with a few more ups than downs. We used predealt boards for this match and copies of the
boards have been provided to the team captains.
The next round of matches is set out below and is scheduled to be completed by 20th
December. The clubs may choose to play on the DNR Facilitated Games night on the 19th
December in St Paul’s if they so wish.
Good luck to you all in the next round.
